Eyebrow & eyeliner tattoos in San Francisco, CA
another round of eyebrow tattoo (AKA microblading) and first eyeliner tattoo in Outer Sunset
I started getting eyebrow tattoos in 2014, before the microblading craze started. The tattoos would last about 2-3 years and will require a touchup. My primary tattoo was done in LA but due to time constricts and travel, I decided to get the touchups in San Francisco, where I was based for the past 8.5 years. Continue reading to learn about my latest round of eyebrow tattoos and first time getting eyeliner tattoos.
Background
As mentioned, I started getting eyebrow tattoos in 2014 and really liked the results. The technician used greyish/black ink to prevent the infamous blue thick tattoos of decades past. I also didn’t want brownish ink (even though it would have matched my dyed hair color at the time) as it would clash with my existing natural light black eyebrow hairs. I also had a tendency to dye my hair brown, blonde and jet black throughout the year so wanted natural looking eyebrows that I would color with whatever hair color I had at the time.
My eyebrows became very low maintenance and only required some eyebrow powder when I had full makeup on.
I tried two different permanent makeup artists in San Francisco and didn’t like the results of either. One kept insisting on a brownish toned ink and the other’s skills were just terrible (she had me lay down for the whole session). I decided to go with my esthetician since I’ve been happy with her facials and liked her eyebrow tattoo results on others.
Experience
The whole process for eyebrow and eyeliner tattoo took about 3 hours. She put numbing cream on my eyebrows for 20ish minutes then started the eyebrow tattooing then put numbing cream on my lash line and waited another 20ish minutes to start the eyeliner tattoo.
She drew the eyebrow tattoo outline before the numbing cream and asked for my opinion. I preferred the Korean style thicker straight brows while my esthetician liked the Chinese arched and thinner style. After a couple modifications, we decided for something in between.
I had different inks in my eyebrows already from the previous eyebrow tattoos which made this touchup more difficult. My esthetician had to use nude ink to hide some of the reddish ink.
It took about 30-40 minutes for the eyebrow tattoos to be completed.
The eyeliner tattoo was more painful, even with the numbing cream, because the area is thinner and more sensitive. My eyes kept watering and extended the process time. I also was afraid of the tattoo expending over time and insisted on a very thin line. The whole process took about 40-50 minutes and I was so relieved when it was over. In addition to the pain, there was also a loud buzzing noise that sounded really scary since it was right by my eyeballs.
Results
After two weeks of healing, the results were great! My eyebrows look full and eyeliner is barely noticeable. I returned after 8 weeks for the touchup (included in the price) and asked to even out the eyebrows a bit and increase the eyeliner thickness so it’s more noticeable. She worked her magic and now my eyebrows and eyes look presentable without any makeup. It’s a great feeling to wake up and look nice. I highly recommend these permanent tattoos for all lazy girls who just want to roll out of bed looking amazing! :)
Costs
I received a discount since I was already an existing client. I paid $500 for eyebrows and $500 for eyeliner for $1000 total which includes one touchup after 6-8 weeks.
